Con Cuore Waregem begon in 1971 als “Het Waregems Kamerkoor”. Na dirigenten Ivan Leire en Patrick Van Compernolle bracht het met Hans Vervenne grote producties, zoals de Johannespassie van J.S. Bach, het Requiem van W.A. Mozart en het Requiem van Fauré. Vanaf 1999 verkende het met Jan Vuye nieuwe horizonten en concentreerde zich vooral op muziek van de 20ste eeuw, maar bracht ook uitvoeringen zoals het Requiem van Duruflé, de 9de Symfonie van Beethoven, muziek van W. Matthias en J. Tavener en Carmina Burana van Carl Orff. Door de gestage groei was het koor geen “kamerkoor” meer en in oktober 2003 koos het zijn nieuwe naam, waarna het op de internationale koorwedstrijd Vlaanderen-Maasmechelen prompt de prijs voor de beste uitvoering van het opgelegd werk van Frits Celis wegkaapte. In 2005 stootte het koor door tot de finale van de wedstrijd “Koor van het Jaar”. In het jaar daarop won het in Sint-Martens-Latem de eerste driejaarlijkse Muziekprijs Lieven Duvosel en werd het in het Brugse Concertgebouw eerste laureaat van het vernieuwde Koorfestival van de provincie West-Vlaanderen.
In 2010 werd Con Cuore Waregem geselecteerd door het Florilège Vocal de Tours en behaalde het in de tweede finale van het provinciaal Koorfestival opnieuw een grootste onderscheiding met felicitaties van de jury. In 2012 voerde het koor de Mattheüspassie van Bach uit en werd het uitgenodigd naar het Festival van Verona. Begin 2013 werd Con Cuore gevraagd deel te nemen aan een verrassingsconcert ter gelegenheid van de 50ste verjaardag van componist Kurt Bikkembergs, en later op het jaar volgden de fel gesmaakte eigen projecten “Voices²” (samen met het Amerikaanse Pitt Men’s Glee Club), “Carrousel” en “O Magnum Mysterium”.
In 2019 wint het koor voor de tweede keer de Muziekprijs Lieven Duvosel. In 2021 sleept het nog meer prijzen in de wacht en dat op de World Choir Games, waar het een gouden medaille behaalde in de categorie “Musica Sacra a capella” alsook in de categorie “Mixed adult choirs”. In die laatste categorie mocht Con Cuore zich bovendien wereldkampioen noemen. In 2023 werd het koor geselecteerd voor deelname aan het internationaal koorfestival van Tallinn (Estland). Naast al die prijzen mag het koor sinds 2011 onafgebroken tot en met 2025 de titel “Cultureel Ambassadeur van de Stad Waregem” dragen.

In 1971 Con Cuore Waregem started out as ‘Het Waregems Kamerkoor’ (‘Waregem Chamber Choir’). After the passage of its conductors Ivan Leire and Patrick Van Compernolle, Hans Vervenne took on major productions such as Bach’s St. John Passion and both Mozart’s and Fauré’s Requiem.
Since 1999 CCW has been conducted by Jan Vuye. Ever since choir members and conductor have been exploring new horizons, in which the main focus is 20th century music, but also Duruflé’s Requiem, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, choral music by W. Matthias and J. Tavener, and Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.
The choir’s steady growth lead to its taking on a new name in October 2003, since the choir no longer could be categorised as a chamber choir. Con Cuore Waregem was (re)born, its first achievement being winning first prize with their performance of the compulsory work by Frits Celis at the international choir competition Flanders-Maasmechelen (BE). In 2005 CCW made the finals of the ‘Koor van het Jaar’ competition (BE). The year after they took first prize in the first edition of the triennial ‘Muziekprijs Lieven Duvosel’ (BE), as well as becoming first laureate of the choir festival organised by the province of West-Flanders (BE). Roland Coryn was assigned to write a commissioned composition, which was first performed by CCW as Canticum Canticorum Salomonis, besides Rachmnaninov’s All-Night Vigil.
In 2010 Con Cuore Waregem was selected by the Florilège Vocal de Tours committee (FR); in the same year they took part in the second finals of the provincial choir competition, which was rewarded with great honour and congratulations from all members of the jury.
Both in 2011 and 2012 CCW was granted the title of ‘Cultural Ambassador of the City of Waregem’. In 2012 they performed Bach’s St. Matthew Passion (Mendelssohn version) and were invited to sing at the choir festival of Verona (IT). In 2013 CCW was asked to take part in a surprise concert on the occasion of Belgian choir music composer Kurt Bikkemberg’s 50th birthday; later that year they programmed highly appreciated and very own projects ‘Voices²’ (in collaboration with the American choir Pitt Men’s Glee Club), ‘Carrousel’ and ‘O Magnum Mysterium’.
In 2012 they performed Bach’s St. Matthew Passion (Mendelssohn version) and were invited to sing at the choir festival of Verona (IT).
In 2016 they won the choir festival organised by the province of West-Flanders (BE) and in 2019, they won the triennial ‘Muziekprijs Lieven Duvosel’ for the second time.
In 2021 they won more prizes at the World Choir Games. Participation in two categories, ‘Musica Sacra a capella’ and ‘Mixed adult choirs’, resulted in no less than two gold medals. Moreover, the choir achieved the title of World Champions in the latter category. In 2023, the choir was selected to participate in the Tallinn International Choir Festival (Estonia).
Due to this extraordinary performances on the one hand, and prestigious and ambitious future projects on the other, CCW was granted the title of ‘Cultural Ambassador of the City of Waregem’ in 2011 and this title has been worn with pride uninterruptedly ever since.
